The Kwaebibirem Rural Bank was established in 1984 and opened its doors to the public for banking business on 25th August, 1984, initially to serve the people of Kwaebibirem and its environs. It was promoted by indigenes from the area with an initial capital of GH¢150.00 (¢1,500,000 old cedis).Shares of the bank are opened to everybody who desires to become a shareholder.

The bank is located within the natural resource belt of Ghana where forest products, timber, palm oil, citrus fruits, minerals like gold and diamonds abound are mined and where bustling commercial activities are on the rise.

It operates within the confines of 4 districts namely Kwaebibirem and Dekyembour District Assemblies and West Akyem and Birim Central Municipalities.  It operates from seven (7) agencies situated at Asuom, Kwae, Kade, Asamankese, Boadua, Pramkese and Akim Oda, all in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The bank serves many towns and villages in the catchment area with a total population of over 113,271 (Based on the available data from the Kwaebibirem District Assembly). The operational area has many commercial activities in the catchment area.
